We have 25 members working as lost-timers who are engaged in member to member discussions regarding the critical importance of the November elections. Many of you will have contact with them as they go about their business.

We have also established new information on the SEPAC website regarding the 2010 elections, both in terms of the website and a new blog. We strongly encourage you to visit SEPAC’s website: www.wseu-sepac.org; and/or the blog: www.wseusepac.blogspot.com.

This Is critical - We Need Your Help!

GOTV (Get Out The Vote) Activities will begin soon. Details will be posted at the SEPAC website as they develop.

However, Union Members need to engage in great numbers over the next two weeks with the labor movements "Member-to-Member" communications. We need AFSCME members to join the labor movement and do "Member-to-Member" walks and/or make phone calls. This is absolutely critical to the labor movement winning on election day. CAN WE COUNT ON YOU?

Please make contact with the appropriate Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Service Area Organizer or AFSCME Council 24 Volunteer Coordinator if you are able to help. Labor cannot sit this election out. Many forces of evil are knocking on our doors this election. The BEST WAY can knock back is to KNOCK on MEMBERS doors and/or speak with them on the phone. PLEASE DO YOUR PART, even if you can only give one or two hours of your time each weekend leading up to the election on November 2nd.

Barrett thanks Labor 2010 volunteers as they talk with union members one-on-one

EAU CLAIRE, WI – Gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett visited with dozens of Eau Claire area labor activists this evening, as volunteers contacted fellow union members about the mid-term elections. Barrett thanked union members for their continued dedication and encouraged members to cast an informed vote on November 2nd.

“Our goal is simple. We are fighting to elect candidates who will support working families,” explained Phil Neuenfeldt, President of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. “We believe that Tom Barrett will protect workers’ rights and stop Wisconsin jobs from being outsourced. He has a plan which will create 180,000 new jobs during his first term by investing in job training and green technologies, as well as cutting through red tape on new construction. That is the kind of leadership that we need to jumpstart our economy.”

Today’s member-to-member phone bank and labor walk are part of the Wisconsin Labor 2010 political outreach program. –The program is the largest voter mobilization effort in the state, reaching union households daily through telephone calls, local union mail, door-to-door walks, and worksite leafleting. Since July, volunteers from Wisconsin State AFL-CIO affiliated unions have reach out to tens of thousands of working families each week, all in an effort to elect candidates who will stand against corporate greed and rebuild our struggling middle-class.

The Wisconsin State AFL-CIO represents 250,000 workers from over 1,000 local unions across Wisconsin. The mission of the organization is to improve the lives of working families by bringing economic justice to the workplace and creating social justice for all Wisconsinites.

Jobs Numbers Would Have Been Worse if Republicans Had Prevailed

AFSCME President Gerald W. McEntee released the following statement on September Jobs Numbers:

"Today's employment numbers send a clear signal that Wall Street isn't doing its part to put America back to work. While U.S. companies sit on a record $1.8 trillion in cash, the private sector added fewer than 64,000 new jobs last month. At the same time, nearly 159,000
public-sector jobs were eliminated, including more than 75,000 jobs cut by local governments.

"300,000 additional jobs could have been lost if Republicans had succeeded in blocking President Obama's effort to provide more than $25 billion in funding to states and communities in August. That funding will help protect jobs and services during our current economic crisis.

Remember, only four Republicans in the entire Congress supported the effort to protect the jobs of tens of thousands of public sector workers."

It's Rally Time!

The Wisconsin Education Association, along with AFSCME and other public sector unions are organizing and endorsing a major rally in Madison at the State Capitol.

The rally is titled “Moving Wisconsin Forward” and it is to publicly show and talk about our support for quality public services in Wisconsin – strong schools, affordable health care, good jobs and a strong economy, reliable roads and transportation, and the list goes on and on.

The rally is scheduled for Saturday, October 16th, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the State Street entrance to the Capitol.

This is a wonderful way to spend one of the last few beautiful Saturdays of fall with your family. It is important that we all show our support for investing in the public services and infrastructure that keep our state vital. We also need to show some negative minded politicians that there really are people who care about public services and doing what is right for Wisconsin.

"Few budgetary concepts generate as much unintended confusion and deliberate misinformation as the Social Security trust funds. Political candidates of both parties have accused their opponents of ‘raiding’ the trust funds. Some writers disparage the trust funds as ‘funny money’ or ‘IOUs.’ All these claims are nonsense.

Kohler Demands 5 Year Wage Freeze

Also Demands 35 Percent Lower Pay With No Health Care For New Hires

The Kohler Company in Wisconsin may become the most recent company to install a two-tiered wage system. Kohler is in contract negotiations with the United Auto Workers and is asking that new employees and workers recalled from layoffs be paid at a rate nearly 35 percent less than current workers and not receive health care benefits. The company has also asked union members to accept a five-year wage freeze.
