Local union members talk politics with Senator Feingold

(MADISON, WI) – Senator Russ Feingold participated in a Labor 2010 tailgate with local union members this afternoon. Feingold discussed economic issues, such as job creation, which are foremost on the minds of working families this election season. He also took the time to thank union members for their continued get out the vote efforts.

“I am here to support Russ Feingold, the only Senate candidate who will support workers once elected,” explained Barb Peters, AFSCME Local 171 member and Labor 2010 activist. “We need Russ in office to continue to fight against flawed trade policies like NAFTA and CAFTA that send Wisconsin jobs overseas.”

Peters has been knocking on doors and making phone calls to fellow union members since July.

“I can feel the enthusiasm building for Feingold as November 2nd draws near. Today’s tailgate is a perfect example of the energy that can make a difference in this election,” Peters concluded.

Today’s tailgate was part of Labor 2010, a grassroots effort through which union members talk one-on-one with each other about the critical midterm elections. The program reaches tens of thousands of Wisconsin workers weekly via member-to-member walks, phone banks, worksite leaflets and local union mail.

As Election Day draws near, Wisconsin workers have a clear choice between candidates who will build a better future for working families and those who would tear down the middle-class. Senator Feingold has earned the endorsement of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO and this tailgate party is one of many recent opportunities for union voters to talk to their Senator and show him their enthusiasm.
