AFSCME Council 24 Bargaining Conferences

It is a beautiful day in Wisconsin, but that is not stopping AFSCME Council 24 members from sacrificing their day off and participating in a Union Bargaining Conference in Madison.

An estimated 150 delegates packed AFSCME Headquarters for a general session where they were briefed as to the current state of affairs. The general session was followed by each bargaining unit breakout session where each unit elected their executive board representatives.

Newly elected executive board representatives will assume their duties at the conclusion of the WSEU Convention to be held June 9 and 10 in Madison.

"Vote Your Values" Tour with Lori Compas

Lori Compas, recall challenger to Scott Fitzgerald, is doing a VOTE YOUR VALUES Tour this weekend, May 19th and 20th to focus on what unites us--values like honesty, compassion and fairness.

This event is designed to bring people from across the political spectrum together to move past the divisiveness that have become all to common in politics recently.

We need LOTS of people to be at the events. IF ANY OF YOU COULD PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD and invite people to come that would be great! They are going to be a ton of fun with: live music, jugglers, refreshments, balloons, flags, stickers for kids... and Lori will speak. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help out in this RED area of the state that is trying to turn BLUE in this RECALL ELECTION. We are hoping that big turnouts will help us get more press coverage and help get Lori's name out there more and more. Bring a home made sign expressing your VALUES.

For those of you who LOVE to canvass, we will be running canvasses for Lori and Barrett after each event, so bring your walking shoes and plan to stay awhile.

Madison Politiscope: Ed Schultz becomes cable TV's champion of Wisconsin workers

…. Later in his recent visit, Schultz and his crew walked over to Cooper’s to shoot the promo ad. They were greeted by a group of local AFSCME picketers, as well as Madison radio host, John “Sly” Sylvester of WTDY’s “Sly in the Morning.” The group was protesting Schultz’s use of Cooper’s Tavern for his shoot, since the bar is part of Food Fight, a restaurant group that AFSCME has feuded with ever since it began operating an eatery at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery on the UW-Madison campus. … Schultz walked outside and talked to the protesters. To his staff’s great relief, the group was apparently not interested in disrupting the shoot. They simply wanted him and others to be informed of the grievances they had against Food Fight.

AFSCME | Walker and Gingrich Share a Donor

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, facing a recall next month for taking away the collective bargaining rights of nearly 200,000 Wisconsin public service employees, has a new billionaire to fund his drive to stay in power: Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. Adelson, the same billionaire who almost single-handedly financed the failed campaign of GOP Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich, is now “one of the embattled Wisconsin governor’s biggest donors,” according to John Nichols, writing in The Nation.

Scott Walker Ally: Collective Bargaining Rollback Was 'Middle Ground' For Wisconsin GOP

Jeff Fitzgerald, the Republican speaker of the Wisconsin state assembly, assumed that Gov. Scott Walker's rollback of collective bargaining rights in the state was a "middle ground" considering some of his GOP colleagues' more aggressive stances against unions, according to a new video and a report in Salon. In the video, posted to YouTube Tuesday by a Wisconsin Democratic group, Fitzgerald says that Walker's attempt to strip public-sector workers of their collective bargaining rights "wasn't a shock," and that several lawmakers in his caucus hoped to turn Wisconsin into a right-to-work state.

Taking Back Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Democratic State Senators have a very clear and very strong message. Watch the below video for their message.

We not only have to VOTE WALKER OUT on June 5th, but we must VOTE OUT the GOP Senators facing recall on June 5th.

Scott Walker, are you serious? Less pay because you're a woman?

Scott Walker recently eliminated a law that protects women from being paid less. Walker's action makes it easier for corporations to pay women less than men. It's incredible that Scott Walker would want to take our state backward. We can't support Walker because Walker just doesn't care about women.

All Hands on Deck - There Is No Time To Waste!

Brothers and Sisters,

There is no time to waste! In just 21 days Wisconsinites will head to the polls on June 5 and make history. We will stand up to reclaim Wisconsin. We will vote to put an end to Scott Walker’s worst-in-the-nation jobs record. We will join together to preserve a Wisconsin that honors and respects its working people.

We are fighting for a Wisconsin where the right to vote is encouraged, not taken away. A Wisconsin where our Governor does not have a criminal defense fund. A Wisconsin where our schools and communities are given the proper support to thrive.

The people of Wisconsin have voted for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to take on Scott Walker in the special recall election on June 5.

Tom Barrett has the full support of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. We know that Tom Barrett is committed to restoring collective bargaining rights and fighting on behalf of working people.

Together, united, we will defeat Scott Walker on June 5. With just three weeks to go until recall election day, there is no time to lose. Here are simple ways that you can help --

1. Volunteer - Click here for statewide locations where you can volunteer.

2. DonateClick here to the Wisconsin Worker Defense Fund.
Checks can be sent to: 6333 W. Bluemound Road, Milwaukee WI, 53213

In the next three weeks, we must make sure that every person in Wisconsin understands that recalling Scott Walker is about preserving a strong middle class and stopping his job-killing policies which reward out-of-state corporate millionaires at the expense of Wisconsin families.

We have the opportunity to show the world that a people-powered movement can overcome corporate money, but we need each and every one of you to get involved and to vote on June 5.

In Solidarity,

Phil Neuenfeldt, President
Stephanie Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer
Wisconsin State AFL-CIO

The World Needs to See This

By now you’ve probably seen the video of Gov. Walker confiding with Beloit Billionaire Diane Hendricks about his “Divide and Conquer” strategy.

But do you remember Gov. Walker on statewide TV just weeks later saying exactly the opposite?

We do.

And we made a video to show everyone just how Gov. Walker tells his billionaire backers one thing, and the rest of us another.

We’ll leave it to you to decide which Gov. Walker was telling the truth.

SEPAC NOTE: Scott Walker caught in yet, another lie, sham, untruth, whatever you want to label it.

Step into the time machine. We're going back one year, to May 2, 2011.

A few weeks earlier, Governor Walker not only decided to balance the budget on the back of teachers and other public workers, but he also stripped them of their collective bargaining rights and ability to unionize.

In an attempt to alter the public perception that he had unfairly attacked public workers, Walker rolled out "The State Employee Recognition Program."

…. If the unions win, it could essentially stop similar anti-union legislation in its tracks. “It sends a clear message to the right-wing groups that are fronting this assault. That workers aren’t just going to stand by and watch their rights be stripped away,” Richard Abelson, executive director of AFSCME District Council 48 said.
