New hires at the University of Wisconsin could opt out of the state retirement system under a proposal being floated in the Assembly, though it's not clear that they would want to.
The measure would allow the UW System to let covered employees select a defined-contribution plan — like a 401(k) — rather than participating in the state pension system.
