Ignored by Administration
Waupun Correctional Staff to Rally

Waupun Correctional Institution staff and supporters will rally outside the facility on Tuesday to draw attention to safety concerns and other issues that are being ignored by Department of Corrections administrators.

Staff members at correctional institutions all across Wisconsin are raising concerns about wholesale policy changes adopted by the department that are creating confusion and potential danger inside and outside correctional facilities.  The concerns of workers are being ignored – creating considerable danger, especially at maximum-security facilities like WCI.

Low morale has led to system-wide vacancy rate of more than 5%, which is driving up overtime costs to record levels and creating rapidly deteriorating conditions – a situation employees are urgently struggling to see addressed.

Workers and supporters will be outside the front gate of the facility between 12:30 and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27.

Speakers will address the crowd beginning at 2:15 p.m. The facility is at 200 South Madison St. in Waupun.
