Although the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has been around for almost four decades, many people don’t know its name or handiwork. But activists in Salt Lake City and across America are working to change that. ALEC plans to hold its national conference in Salt Lake City July 23-28, and a Utah coalition of protest groups — calling itself the "ALEC Welcoming Committee" — is gearing up to educate Beehive State residents about the group.
