New AFSCME head sends message to Dems: Not so fast - POLITICO.com

A source close to incoming AFSCME President Lee Saunders threw water on some of the buzz this morning that his election is a clear win for the White House and Democrats, suggesting that the new union head isn't looking to adhere to a party line. "Lee's serious about holding electeds accountable and will be saying as much in remarks later today," the source said. "Folks who have been talking about Lee as an extension of (Gerald) McEntee are going to be surprised by Lee's determination to set his own path and his awareness that we need to hold our 'friends' accountable and to help those who help us....
